FTP

If you are a hosting customer (or a managed web space customer who would like to amend your own pages), you will need FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software to connect to your webspace to add and update your web pages. CuteFTP is an excellent trialware product which is easy to use and affordable (approximately $35).

The key information you will need to connect your FTP software to your webspace is:

Host Name ftp.yourdomainname (i.e. ftp.something.co.uk)
User Name your domain name (i.e. something.co.uk
Password alphanumeric password set up by SiteOne or via your Personal Control Panel

Local files are the files held on your PC
Remote files are those held on our server

  server folders
It is important that you transfer your files to the correct location on the server.

All viewable files should be placed in the htdocs folder, i.e. index.htm
Raw log files are automatically placed in the logfiles folder.
Databases should be placed in the private folder.

CuteFTP has an easy-to-follow Connection Wizard which takes you through the set-up process of your key information.

Once you have completed the Connection Wizard you will be able to connect to our FTP server to access/transfer your web pages.

CuteFTP is similar to Windows Explorer. On the left of the program shows your "local" files and the right shows your "remote" files.

To transfer your files simply highlight the files you want to transfer, then drag and drop from your local files to your remote files.

Troubleshooting

Once you have correctly set-up your FTP account you should be able to connect to our FTP server without problems. Always ensure that you have correctly typed in your key information, remembering that the server log-in process is case sensitive to your details.
